Ingredients

espresso or strong coffee
  • 2 shots espresso (or 1/2 cup strong coffee) Use hot espresso; strong coffee works as the substitute.
milk
  • 1 cup whole milk Whole milk froths best, but any milk works.
sweetener & flavor
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.25 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.125 tsp nutmeg Use a small pinch (about 1/8 tsp).
toppings
  • 0.5 whipped cream, optional Omit if you want a lighter latte.
  • 0.25 tsp cinnamon for garnish Extra cinnamon sprinkled on top before serving.

Equipment

  • 1 small saucepan
  • 1 milk frother

Method

Brew the coffee
  1. Brew the espresso or strong coffee until hot.
  2. Set the brewed coffee aside so it stays warm while you heat the milk.
Warm and flavor the milk
  1. In a small saucepan, combine the whole milk, brown sugar, honey, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Heat over medium-low heat for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring, until warm but not boiling (no bubbling at the edges).
  3. Froth the milk mixture using a frother or whisk until it looks foamy and slightly thick.
Assemble the latte
  1. Pour the espresso into a large mug.
  2. Slowly add the frothed milk mixture so the foam stays on top.
  3. Top with whipped cream if desired, then sprinkle with cinnamon and serve immediately.

Notes

For the best foam, stop heating as soon as the milk is warm and never let it come to a boil—high heat can thin the texture. Store any leftover flavored milk in the fridge up to 2 days and rewarm gently; froth again right before serving. Freezing the finished latte isn’t recommended because the foam can break. If you want a lighter option, use 2% or oat milk and froth until you still see a creamy cap on top.
