Ingredients

For the casserole
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup condensed
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 0.125 tsp black pepper ground
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) green beans cut, drained
For the topping
  • 1.33 cups French fried onions canned, divided

Equipment

  • 1 1.5-quart baking dish

Method

Make the casserole
  1. Heat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 1.5-quart baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, stir together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper.
  4. Fold in the green beans and 2/3 cup of the French fried onions.
  5. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared dish.
Bake the casserole
  1. Bake for 25 minutes, until the casserole is hot and bubbling around the edges.
  2. Sprinkle the remaining 2/3 cup French fried onions over the top.
  3. Bake for 5 minutes, until the onions are golden brown.
  4. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For the crispest topping, drain the green beans well. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days; freezing is not recommended because the onions can soften. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free cream of mushroom soup and French fried onions.
